Oil-Cooled Servo Voltage Stabilizer

Oil-cooled servo stabilizers for continuous heavy-duty industrial loads — 50 kVA to 2000 kVA, engineered for high ambient temperatures and 24×7 duty cycles.

Oil cooling is not a premium feature. It is an engineering requirement for continuous industrial duty in Indian ambient conditions.

The principle

What oil cooling actually does

Oil cooling in a servo voltage stabilizer is not a premium feature — it is an engineering requirement for specific operating conditions. When a stabilizer runs at significant load continuously, in ambient temperatures above 35°C, in an enclosure with limited airflow, or on a 24×7 duty cycle, air cooling is inadequate for keeping transformer and component temperatures within safe operating range. Oil cooling solves this by immersing the transformer core and windings in dielectric oil, which simultaneously insulates the windings and conducts heat away from the transformer body to the outer tank surfaces, where it dissipates into the surrounding air.

Inside an oil-cooled unit the transformer core and windings are fully immersed in a sealed tank of dielectric oil. As the copper and core heat up under load, the surrounding oil warms, rises, and circulates to the outer tank surfaces where the heat is shed to ambient air. Because oil carries far more heat than circulating air and provides high dielectric strength, it does two jobs at once — it pulls heat out of the windings and insulates the high-voltage sections. The practical result is a stabilizer that holds its rated performance in Indian factory ambient conditions that would cause an equivalently rated air-cooled unit to run hot, derate its output, and suffer premature insulation degradation. For heavy industrial applications — textile mills, large manufacturing plants, mining and construction sites, oil and gas facilities, and any installation with continuous 24×7 duty — oil cooling is the correct specification.

Specify correctly

When to specify oil-cooled over air-cooled

Cooling choice is an engineering decision driven by duty cycle, ambient temperature, and capacity — not a matter of preference. Here is where each is correct.

Choose oil-cooled when

  • Continuous duty at or above 70% of rated load
  • Ambient temperatures regularly above 40°C
  • Frequent high-inrush events such as large motor startups
  • Installation in enclosed or poorly ventilated spaces
  • Capacities above 100 kVA, where air-cooled heat dissipation becomes a facility problem
  • Outdoor or semi-outdoor sites exposed to dust, moisture, or high ambient heat

Air-cooled is appropriate when

  • Moderate-duty applications
  • Capacities below 50 kVA
  • Clean indoor environments with good airflow
  • The unit sits in an air-conditioned space

If you are unsure which applies, our engineers will assess your operating conditions and recommend the correct cooling specification before you commit to a purchase.

Build quality

What Voltaire builds in oil-cooled

We manufacture oil-cooled servo voltage stabilizers from 50 kVA to 2000 kVA in single-phase and three-phase configurations. Three-phase oil-cooled units are available in both common-magnetic-core and three-independent-winding configurations — the independent configuration providing better phase-to-phase regulation for applications where phase imbalance is as significant a problem as overall voltage variation.

01

Copper-wound cores — never aluminium

Our oil-cooled units use copper-wound transformer cores, not aluminium winding — a common cost-cutting measure that significantly reduces continuous-duty performance and longevity.

02

Mineral oil to IS 335

The dielectric oil meets IS 335 specification, providing the correct dielectric strength, viscosity, and flash point for Indian operating conditions.

03

Tank-tested & load-tested

Every unit is tank-tested for oil tightness before dispatch and load-tested under rated conditions to verify output regulation and response time.

04

Independent-winding option

Three-independent-winding builds deliver superior phase-to-phase regulation where phase imbalance matters as much as overall voltage variation.
